As Floridians begin to prepare for the arrival of Hurricane Dorian, one of the issues dog owners are dealing with is how to accommodate your pup’s bathroom needs. Even if your home is not in the direct path of the storm, you don’t want to be outside with tropical storm force winds and your dog will most likely not want to go outside either!
So, what do you do? Some pet sites recommend putting newspaper down and trying to get your pooch to relieve themselves on the paper, but that’s easier said than done, not to mention what a mess it will be to clean up. If you’re worried about where or how to get your dog to use the bathroom in a designated area, we suggest you try getting a few pieces of sod.
That’s right, sod! Sod grass comes in small rolls and can be purchased for only a few dollars per piece. Take three to four pieces of sod, place them in a kiddie pool, or similar sized container, and put the kiddie pool in your garage, hallway, or desired area of your home. Maybe even include a bit of dirt or something from outside of your home so your pup is familiar with the smell. Show your dog where the pool is and hopefully they will use it to do their business. We’ve heard many success stories from people who have done this in the past and hopefully it will work for you too!
Just take a quick trip to A One Stop Garden Shop in Loxahatchee Groves, Florida and you can get this makeshift doggy bathroom ready to go with minimal effort. We have plenty of sod available and will be happy to help you.
We are currently operating under normal business hours. However, our hours may change as we get closer to the hurricane making landfall. We encourage you to give us a call if you have any questions, or would like more information.
Stay safe, Florida neighbors!
